    <p><span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:12px;">I've been a journalist most of my life. I have </span></span><span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family:'open sans';"><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="color:#404040;">three decades’ experience reporting national and international news for print and broadcast media. I covered politics, energy, social issues, aviation and the 9/11 terrorist attacks for </span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family:'open sans';"><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="color:#404040;"><em>The </em></span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Christian Science Monitor.</em></span></span><span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family:'open sans', arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="color:#404040;"> My wide-ranging experience includes a stint on Capitol Hill as then-Senator John Kerry’s national press secretary in the early 1990s and at NBC during the 1996 presidential campaign. </span></span></span></span></p>

<span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family:'open sans', arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="color:#404040;">     After I left the Monitor in 2010, I wrote a column about </span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family:'open sans';"><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="color:#404040;">the green, cost-effective renovation of Sheep Dog Hollow, an abandoned farmhouse in Connecticut. I now live between Sheep Dog and New York City. </span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family:'open sans';"><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="color:#404040;"> I've spent the last three years researching and writing "Ladies of the Empire," an historical novel centered around the epic fight over prostitution at the Empire Theater in London during the 1890's. While writing it, I attended the Yale Writer's Conference three times. In last year's session, I did a novel intensive workshop with John Crowley (author of "Little Big," among many others.) </span></span></span></span></p>

<span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family:'open sans', arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="color:#404040;">     This</span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> March, I went to the Algonkian Pitch Conference and met three editors who have expressed an interest in reading my "Ladies:" Brendan Deneen of McMillan Entertainment, Ibrahim Ahmin of </span></span><span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="color:#262626;">Akashic Books,</span></span></span><span style="font-family:arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> and Priyanka Krishnan of Ballantine Books. Before I pitch them, I'm trying to land an agent. In the meantime, I have started the AS program for my latest venture, a memoir about living with an Oxycontin-addicted, deeply spiritual and charming alcoholic who owns one of New York City's oldest, iconic bars.</span></span></p>
