Gerrit was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. After completing his studies at the University of Washington, he left on a three-month adventure to Southeast Asia which he extended into a twenty-seven year stay. He and his family made Bandung, Indonesia, the provincial capital of West Java, their home.
In 2012, Gerrit turned over all his responsibilities to the national leaders he had mentored over the years and moved his family back to the Pacific Northwest where he writes, tutors, and has a catering business.Gerrit has been writing since his university years, and loves the opportunity for unlimited creative freedom in the fantasy genre. He also enjoys writing futuristic thrillers that reflect on present ideas or technology in the development stage. Finally, he continues writing anecdotal pieces which will eventually be compiled into a memoir about his years in Indonesia.
