• About Me

My eyes pop open at 4:30 AM, but it is not a creaky floor board that wakes me. The house is quiet- too quiet. I tiptoe to my computer and pull up the evidence of yesterday's crimes against Mr. Yeats' English. As I begin to process the scene I'm horrified by the brutality I'm witnessing and I don't want to be implicated in it, so I erase some of the evidence and "edit" the rest. Now that I am writing full-time I can't avoid leaving fingerprints, so I just hope for the best, plunge ahead and write for five or six more hours

I live in Seattle, where I learned about the avenues of power and the alleyways of crime, sometimes intersecting, as Deputy Mayor. My first novel, A NAME TO DIE FOR, is about murders in Seattle linked to human trafficking from China. I learned about women being trafficked from Asia and coerced into prostitution when I was regional director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
