I’m undeniably and endlessly interested in chocolate - all kinds. Milk or dark, cake or candy bars, spread thick on toast or toes. Okay, maybe not toes - but I'll admit, I'd be tempted. Other than that vice, I spend more money than a starving artist can afford on travel, writing workshops & retreats, and interesting footwear. My son calls them happy shoes, my youngest daughter calls them plain weird.

<p>I've been writing since I was just a kid, and incorporated writing into every job I ever had - from fundraiser to media relations to PR consulting - but didn't start calling myself a writer until I was almost forty. I never wanted to face the question you are ultimately asked when you tell people you are a writer - "Have you written anything I may have read?" It's a ridiculous question really. Now that I have immersed myself into the writing community, I understand this. No matter how brilliant (or famous) a writer, many people will not have read their work. So the question really sets you up to fail. Unless of course you are Stephen King or J.K. Rowling. So, now I tell people I am a writer with zero shame or need to explain why I'm not a household name.</p>

I was a teen mom (26 years ago) and an older than everyone else mom for my two youngest children, so it’s safe to say I started first and finished last, at least when it comes to reproduction. My kids do tend to put a damper on the glamorous life of a writer that I'd always imagined, but they give me some of my best blogging material. Besides that, they are quite adorable, if I do say so myself.</p>

I write my best when I’m in my pajamas or after walking my dog, a golden retriever named Maalik (pronounced May-Lick) who should be more appropriately named Will-Lick, because he will indeed lick you at every given opportunity. Unless you try to bring foul to me or the kids - then he'll bite your hand off, or hide between my legs - the jury's still out on that one.</p>
