• About Me

My name is Ken Joseph Wolfe. I am the namesake of my father's best friend and my paternal grandfather, neither of whom I would ever meet; they both died before my birth. That's not important right now.

I'm a native of St. Louis, Missouri, and I've taught school for twenty years in two districts that had been my stomping grounds as a young kid tooling around on my bike. Though I've been an instructor to all ages of middle and high school sholars, I really prefer seventh graders; they're the sweet spot. My seventh grade experience, like so many others', was rotten on a variety of levels. It's part of my mission as an educator (aside from the academic objectives) to prevent the same sort of misery as I had, and to equip my scholars an excitement to move up a grade and try harder stuff.

Outside of teaching, I'm a storyteller. Though I haven't taken the full-time leap, as my bride and children depend on my teaching salary, my avocation is to get up on stages in front of children and adults and elaborately lie to them. I write my own material, mostly tall tales and strange fabrications because I'd like to avoid stepping on someone else's copyrighted stuff. My hook is called "Stories & Lies While-U-Wait" in which I participant from the audience comes to my easel and draws something, anything, in 5-6 seconds and I create a 10-15 minute story from their scribble, incorporating it into the action somehow. In fifteen years, I've yet to get stumped, and some of my best stories since have been created on the spot in that fashion and then grown to really excellent stage stories.

Some years ago, I came up with the concept that is the root of the project I've got here at AS. My scholars spur me on to continue and to finish. One of my favorites to do so, a frizzy-afro-headed boy named Marcus whose personality begged to be a character, died this last year from a heroin overdose. Since then, I've really applied more of my energy in earnest to get this story told.
