Kari Pilgrim was declared winner of the 2014 GRAYWOLF SLS PRIZE, and as a consequence, Graywolf has asked to see the entire manuscript of her novel, HALF OF NO. As they note on their web page:

In this excerpt, young Arnie, the son of a bible salesman, learns his trade from his father, and chafes at the strictures of his life as he learns how to sell. We loved the arc of the narrative, and the patient character development over the course of the excerpt. There are shades of Flannery O’Connor in the portrayal of this bible salesman, and by the end, we found ourselves pulling for Arnie to assert his independence, his right to say no.

HALF OF NO was well received in the past AS showcase. Kari worked with AS editors and peers, as well as Michael Neff, AS contributor and Novel Writing Program faculty member.

Huge congrats to Kari!
